Sailing
The human condition is that of a finite being who traverses an ocean of potential. A landscape characterized by chaos, uncertainty and fear, is the ever-changing confrontation of the unknown. The individual finds order, certainty and security by constructing a boat that can sail the vast complexities brought forth by the sea. The unquestioned integrity of ones boat, plagues the mind, with the worry of rupture that will distract from the constant change in weather. Such inclement weather is reality, it is made up of objects, places, and people for which the sailor cannot perfectly define. What keeps the vessel afloat is the careful construction of what is known, by remaining truthful to its maintenance, a path always remains navigable. Absence of honesty leaves one stuck in the potential of reality, anxious and afraid of its confrontation. However, by hiding from the unknown the sails are down and the vessel is cast adrift, becoming the equivalent of a floating prison until an eventual sinking wreck. Navigating such sea requires the constant mapping of a defined heading. This responsibility will ready the sails to catch the wind or batten the hatches when the weather changes drastically.
An
ocean has no defined route or sign to indicate direction, what
justifies the purpose of sailing is unclear. Some might assume there
isn't a purpose beyond making sure the boat is not stationary nor
sinking. Others might say one is required to insert their own purpose for sailing. The act of sailing assigns a
heading towards all things that incorporates responsibility for the integrity of one's vessel. In this endless sea, all things are formless until the observer defines a priority of values. These values
shape the path of experience and creates opportunities along on the voyage. When orienting
towards this hierarchy of values, one walls out what becomes
irrelevant. Knowing where walls are constructed the individual can
confront the potential of things without being consumed by the depths
of the sea. Sailing through the constant change in weather is hard
and understanding a heading may require an alteration of the
perceived course. Changing courses requires the sacrifice of
contentment as one is confronted by limitation with an
overwhelming abundance of free choice. Such freedom allows us to
determine the course towards values of interest, however all
choices made or lack thereof, matter, as the actions taken to reach a
value influences the intuition of the individual.
As intuition is guided by an artistic manifestation of the
constellations, the domain of creativity is revealed across the stars in a night sky. The accumulation and simplification of our anomalies
constructs what guides one within the complexities of culture. An
open mind allows the extraction of social normality from
dramatizations across all platforms of society. With the guidance of
our aligned imaginations through stories, new values can be discovered
and new headings can be chosen. Through openness, one can yield
potential for opportunity allowing the boat to change its course.
However in the pursuit of eliminating distractions for efficiency,
one restrains the ability for course correction. It is then through closed-mindedness that opportunity is betrayed by ego, values become
rigid and one cannot perceive the choices as they are
presented. Every step to maintaining a balance between speedily
sailing and maneuverability will diminish the risk of a sinking boat.
What keeps the individual willing to pursue the unknown is the means
to know oneself by exploring new territory in order to expand
on what is considered home.
